Memorial Day Pullet Sale

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

If you're in search of point-of-lay pullets for a "cheep" price, you've come to the right place.

The pullets we are offering are all between 12 weeks and 30 weeks old, off heat, acclimated to Maryland's climate and are at least half way to laying age (if not already laying). These are pullets we've accumulated over the past few months as overstock/leftovers from our monthly pullet sales. All birds have been vaccinated for Marek's Disease and come from flocks that are regularly tested for Avian Influenza, Mycoplasma Synoviae and Mycoplasma Gallisepticum. Breeds available include: Ameraucana, Delaware, Copper Marans, Olive Egger, Welsummer and potential mixed birds of those previously stated breeds.

We will also be offering some "retirement" hens. These are hens we've raised for our own family's egg consumption. They are birds that did not meet their breed's standard and were not used for breeding purposes. All hens will be 2+ years of age and may or may not be laying. We've decided to discontinue our family's egg production coop to be able to convert their coop into two new coops for our future self blue and wheaten Ameraucanas.

Orders may only be placed through our website. Please do not call to place an order.

These birds can be ordered for pick up or shipping. Please note that shipping of started birds is expensive due to their size, weight and the USPS requirement to ship Priority Express only. Orders for pick up will require the customer to select a date and time to pick up prior to completing the order. Pick up availability will be as follows:

Saturday, May 25: 2-5

Sunday, May 26: 10-3

Monday, May 27: 10-6

Wednesday, May 29: 10-6

Thursday, May 30: 10-6

Friday, May 31: 10-6

Saturday, June 1: 2-5

Sunday, June 2: 10-3

If you cannot pick up during these available times, please do not place an order with us. We are trying to empty pens to make room for future pullet inventory.

OUR SALE WILL GO LIVE ON FRIDAY, MAY 24TH AT 12:00PM (EST).

Collection: About The Hatchery

The Hatchery at Deer Run Farm was established in May of 2017 when we purchased the existing poultry operation from our neighbors, Will Morrow and Kent Ozkum of Whitmore Farm. They first started breeding and selling their poultry stock in 2003. After 14 years of building a quality reputation with quality flocks, they believed in us and trusted that we could not only continue their legacy, but expand on it and make it a successful part of our own farm.

Deer Run Farm is now the home of five heritage breed chicken flocks that are carefully bred to the standards of perfection set forth by the American Poultry Association. All of our birds are tested regularly for disease to ensure their health which affords us the opportunity to sell our hatching eggs, chicks and started birds with confidence of their health to our customers.

  • Ordering Procedures

Our Sale pullets will go live on the website for ordering on Friday, May 24th at 12:00pm. We will NOT accept any pre-orders for these sale pullets before then.

Orders may only be placed on our website. We will NOT be accepting in person sales nor sales over the phone.

We will be offering options for pick up and shipping. Birds for pick up will be required to select a pick up day and time before checking out. Please make note of your date selection before checking out. Pick ups will be scheduled from May 25th through June 2nd. Shipped orders will ship out on May 28th and June 4th.

  • Order Fulfillment/Shipping Procedures

Sale Pullet orders for pick up will be required to select a date and time for pick up prior to completing the ordering process. Available pick up dates will range from Saturday, May 25th through Sunday, June 2nd. We typically offer pick up times between 10am and 6pm Monday through Friday and 10am to 3pm on the weekends.

Please be sure to write your pick up date and time down before completing check out. We will box your birds up for you prior to your pick up arrival. No need to bring any carrier or transport crate for them. Please be on time for your scheduled pick up or call/text/email us if you're running late. We are a working farm and cannot wait around for late arrivals and don't want the birds in boxes longer than they need to be. We appreciate your cooperation and punctuality.

Shipping of started pullets is expensive. Sale pullets for mail order will ship out on Tuesday, May 28th and June 4th. They will ship via USPS Priority Mail Express and in USPS approved live shipping boxes. The USPS approved shipping boxes are designed to hold less than 10lbs of weight with plenty of filtered airflow to protect your birds in transit. Shipping cost is calculated at check out based on the quantity of birds being purchased and the distance in which they will travel. Shipping costs are calculated directly through the USPS and can not be manipulated. The started pullets will be sent with grogel (electrolytes in gel form) for hydration and typically arrive within 48 hours after shipping. Customers will be provided with tracking information via email as soon as we return from the post office from shipping the birds.

  • Sex Guarantee

Our sale pullets are guaranteed female. All sale pullets will be at least 8 weeks old when they are ready for their new homes. If a late blooming male is mistakenly received by a customer, we will refund that bird upon photographic proof. We cannot, under any circumstances, take miss-identified birds back due to the biosecurity risk they would pose on our farm.

  • Minimum Requirements

There is no minimum requirement to purchase our sale started pullets, but we strongly suggest purchasing two or more at a time. Integrating a single bird into an existing flock can be very stressful for that bird. If at all possible, integrating two or more at a time is ideal so that they are not singled out and picked on by the existing flock.

  • Vaccinations

All sale pullets have been vaccinated for Marek's Disease and come from flocks that are tested routinely for Mycoplasmas and Avian Influenza. We will not have any started pullets that are not vaccinated for Marek's Disease.
